Cursed in Baja

A grungy neo-noir directed by, written by and starring gruff Jeff Daniel Phillips – co-starring his impressive Elliott Gould on crack moustache.  Pirelli (Phillips), a disgraced ex-addict ex-cop working as a janitor, is hired by a wealthy family with whom he has tragic history to track down a wayward son (Finnegan Seeker Bell) who has gone missing in Mexico.  Pirelli is the second unofficial PI on the case, and all the witnesses grumble about having gone over this story before – though no one notices the obvious red flag that the last guy has never been seen again.  In Mexico, Pirelli discovers that the case involves a rapper called Satanas, the famous el chucacabra (a goat-sucking wereboar thing), a Swedish drug dealer, some mad exiled Russians, a buried suitcase full of cocaine, ritual sacrifice and some extreme theatrics.  It’s fairly low-key, parodically hard-bitten and too silly to be disturbing.  With the always-welcome Barbara Crampton.
